46. The Hand of God

Vienna, Austria

I was sitting in the first district of Vienna in Heldenplatz which is a massive square that prominently features two statues of men riding on horseback. What is so impressive about this square is that you are surrounded on all sides by incredible, massive, and beautiful buildings. I can’t think of anywhere else on earth where everywhere you look is another beautiful manmade wonder. The clouds opened and formed this hand-like shape. I was rooted to the spot at how powerful this sight was.

This picture was taken not just because of the cloud but because of the sensation you get when you look at these amazing buildings and sculptures. Vienna itself gives you a sense of awe as you walk around the streets of the first district. It almost doesn’t seem real. How can so many amazing buildings exist in one place and people actually live here? It doesn’t make sense. Vienna has not changed much in the last 100 years (despite being rebuilt after WWII). At times, even if you are not religious you cant help but look to the skies and feel that this city is indeed blessed by a divine being. How else could you explain something so beautiful?
